The Division of Coloproctology was founded in 1997 within the Section of Surgery of the European Union. This is itself a part of the Union Européenne des Médécins Spécialistes (UEMS) which is the official body in the European Union concerned with specialist medical practice.

The EBSQ Examination is the certifying examination leading to the Diploma of EBSQ (Coloproctology) of the European Board of Surgery. This is the only form of certification in the speciality in Europe. Please click on the link for more information on the examinations.

ESCP Alpine Colorectal fellow
In January 2008, the Colorectal Alpine Scientific Committee agreed unanimously to award a fellowship to attend the 2009 Alpine Colorectal Meeting in Verbier, Switzerland.

The successful candidate will deliver his or her presentation in Verbier, based on an abstract submitted to the ESCP for the forthcoming Annual Meeting in Nantes in September 2008.

The winning abstract will be selected on merit from all submitted ESCP abstracts, with a presentation in one of the themed sessions at the Verbier meeting.

Conference registration fees will be covered. In addition, SFr 1000 will be awarded towards travelling costs, accommodation, and social event expenses.
