The ESCP pan-European audit has been a great success. The period for entering operations will be completed by the end of this month, with most centres already completing this stage. The database will remain open for the individual patient 30-day follow-up data to be entered by sites prior to full database lock on 15th May 2015.

We are thrilled that data on over 2400 operations has already been entered from around 270 hospitals across 37 countries in Europe and beyond. Some centres are still going and others have completed data entry on paper forms and continue to upload these onto the system. We therefore expect the number of recruited patients to continue to rise further. Over 1090 co-investigators have contributed to the study and will be accredited in all publications arising from it, according to our predefined authorship policy.

Congratulations to the following top 5 recruiting centres:

  • Helsinki University Central Hospital, Finland - 42 patients
  • Western General Hospital, Scotland, UK - 38 patients
  • Aarhus University Hospital, Denmark - 36 patients
  • Akershus University Hospital, Norway - 31 patients
  • University Hospitals Leuven, Belgium - 30 patients

An email will be sent to all co-investigators soon with details about how to finalise and lock their local data.

It is too late to join the audit this year. However, at ESCP 2015 in Dublin 23-25 September we will be presenting the findings from this year’s study and launching next year’s audit in a plenary research session. We already have several ideas for the topic of next year’s audit but are keen to hear any other ideas members may have.

If members have any questions about the current audit, or have suggestions for a good topic area for the 2016 pan-European audit, please contact us at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
