Secretary’s Update

October 2011

Dear ESCP Colleagues

peter-dawson.jpgAs I start my term as your new secretary, I pay a huge tribute to my predecessor Ronan O'Connell who has tirelessly worked on behalf of the Association over the past 3 years. My appointment as many will know came about due to Johann Pfeifer's sudden illness for whom we all wish a speedy and full recovery and hope to see again soon contributing to ESCP affairs.

I hope to build on the achievements of the Society in its recent history by strengthening ties with all European colorectal societies and allied international associations by collaboration with clinical trials, bench research and teaching of our juniors.

We have excellent relationships with the commercial sector who increasingly are supporting educational grants for surgeons and of course the increasingly successful annual meeting. The ESCP will play an increasingly important role politically as we act as advocates for our patients and one of my first tasks is to establish the External Affairs Committee who will provide a direct link with the media for our views on colorectal matters.

It is an honour to serve this society and I will do my best to uphold it's standards. Please feel free to contact me on any ESCP matter, either via the ESCP Member Network or via my direct e-mail.

With best wishes,

Peter Dawson
ESCP Secretary
