Innovative new guidelines for the treatment of grade I-IV haemorrhoidal disease (HD) have been developed by ESCP in partnership with the Guideline Development Group (GDG). Feedback is now welcomed ahead of their publication in Colorectal Disease.
These guidelines were created using the very best and most up-to-date evidence currently available, to provide insight into the most effective surgical treatment for patients with haemorrhoidal disease.
ESCP hopes that these new guidelines will help to improve outcomes after surgery including a decline in the recurrence of disease, symptoms and complications as well as patient satisfaction.
Carolynne Vaizey, Chair of ESCP’s Guidelines Committee and Senior Consultant Colorectal Surgeon at St. Mark’s Hospital in London, UK, was involved in the development of the new guidelines. She said:
“We first discussed developing these guidelines in September 2017 at ESCP’s conference in Berlin. We decided to consider the recurrent problems which needed be addressed, including specific treatment plans for all patients throughout all stages of haemorrhoids whereby surgical intervention is being considered.
Feedback is now welcomed ahead of the guidelines being published by Colorectal Disease. Global collaboration is key in the development of innovative treatment and patient care and we want to ensure this continues to evolve over the coming years. These guidelines are a great step in the right direction for improving and unifying the approach to haemorrhoidal treatment.”
