Date:
Wednesday 21 September 2022
Times:
08:00 - 12:30
Cost:
€90 (excluding VAT), includes morning coffee break
Workshop directors:
Anders Mellgren (USA), Giulio A. Santoro (Italy)
This workshop is aimed at all practitioners who are involved or interested in pelvic floor disorders, i.e. colorectal surgeons, general surgeons, specialist nurses, gastroenterologists, physiotherapists, etc.
This workshop is supported by an unrestricted educational grant provided by BK Medical.
Workshop content
Imaging is essential in the understanding of pelvic floor disorders. Ultrasound today increasingly used in clinical practice. Novel applications, including three-dimensional endoanal, endorectal, endovaginal, and dynamic transperineal ultrasound can help the clinician with a superior depiction of the pelvic anatomy and unique dynamic information.
The new 3D technology is on the front line in the diagnostic and therapeutic work-up of patients suffering from pelvic floor dysfunction (faecal and urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, obstructed defecation) and for colorectal patients with benign (anorectal sepsis) or malignant (anorectal tumours) pathologies.
The workshop is aimed at practitioners managing above mentioned patients and will feature basic concepts and techniques in clinical practice, demonstrating the endosonographic appearance of normal anatomy and common pathologic conditions of the anorectal region and pelvic floor. The workshop will also discuss typical case scenarios, with highlighting the use of ultrasound in the clinical management of these patients.
Learning objectives
To provide participants with basic knowledge of:
- The normal US anatomy of the anorectal region and the pelvic floor
- The ultrasonographic imaging techniques (3D endoanal, endorectal, endovaginal and dynamic transperineal US)
- The main guidelines and indications for the evaluation of faecal and urinary incontinence, anterior and posterior vaginal wall prolapse, obstructed defecation, anorectal fistulas and rectal tumours
