We are pleased to announce a wide range of research activities at the Vilnius conference, with six sessions in the agenda and more opportunities than ever to get involved.
Our international network of active researchers is one of the key attributes of ESCP. As such, we invite members to submit ideas or expressions of interest to present in their work in the following sessions:
1) International Trials Results Session
Wednesday 27 September 2023
In this headline plenary session we will present and discuss breaking results of major multicentre trials which will impact colorectal surgery on an international level.
If you are involved in a trial which will be completed, analysed and ready to present its full results in September, please email James Keatley, ESCP Research Manager (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) with details of the trial, the presenter and a short paragraph on its importance by Friday 16 June 2023.
The research committee meet to will review all submissions and pick the best 4 for presentation and expert critique/audience discussion during the session.
2) New Trials Forum
Thursday 28 September
This popular session will again include the presentation of several new research projects from across the ESCP membership, including panel feedback and audience discussion.
Studies presented can be in any area of colorectal surgery but must be prospective and involve multiple centres. They can be of any format including randomised trials and large-scale observational projects, and do not need to have started recruitment at the time of presentation in September.
Projects should be open to potential new centres to get involved (nationally or internationally) and at a stage where the discussions and feedback can be incorporated into improving the project.
Please submit ideas for this session via the usual abstract submission portal, selecting the ‘New Trials Research’ option. Deadline is the same as main abstracts: Thursday 25 May 2023.
3) Research Ideas Workshop
Friday 29 September 2023
This is a completely new session for Vilnius. ESCP members have often asked for an informal opportunity to discuss a fledgling research idea and obtain advice on how to convert it into a successful study or trial. This may include guidance and input into research design, methodology, outcome measures, deliverability or routes to multicentre engagement.
We have assembled a team of experienced surgical trialists, methodologists and patient representatives to provide friendly input and counsel during this relaxed session.
If you have an idea for a project, no matter how early in its development, please email James Keatley, ESCP Research Manager (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) to ask for an 8 minute slot during this session, on a first come first served basis. The session will be open to the wider conference audience if they want to observe, but presented in a 'round table' format, without slides.
