ColoRobotica Training Pathway

Robotic-assisted surgeries have been increasingly used in both benign and malignant colorectal conditions. However, there is a lack of a standardised approach supported by scientific societies in Europe, including selection criteria, components of training, assessment and audit data.

As part of the European School of Coloproctology (ESC), European Society of Coloproctology (ESCP), the Colorectal Robotic Surgery Working Group (CRS WG) was set up to benchmark training in robotic colorectal surgery and to optimise patients’ outcomes. Trainees can access our online learning platform - ColoRobotica.

Our working group includes: expert robotic colorectal surgeons with educational interest, surgeons with strong interests in enhanced learning and assessment, anatomist specialising in applied anatomy, visual communicators to support the module development, IT specialists with specific interests in learning management systems and innovation in learning and a team to support administrative and research tasks.

Here is a brief overview of our training pathway:

Due to the COVID pandemic situation, many training activities, including the robotic colorectal training programme, have been affected. However, we plan to launch the programme in 2021; more information will follow when available. So far, we have received numerous expressions of interest in our programme, and we anticipate that demand will grow over time. There will be a staged approach when the programme is launched, and a limited number of spaces for training will be available at the beginning of the programme.
