What made you want to specialise in colorectal surgery?

The challenges of major cancer surgery and earlier diagnosis. Also the human side of helping patients come to terms with their disease and hopefully curing them.

What is the best part of the job?

The patients – they never fail to amaze you!

What do you value most about being involved in ESCP?

I’ve been involved with ESCP for over ten years now and I truly value being able to interact with my colleagues across Europe.

Tell us your best ESCP conference anecdote?

It would have to be sitting in a downpour at Pompeii!

What would your one bit of advice for younger surgeons starting their career in colorectal surgery be?

I would advise finding an inspirational teacher.
