David Zimmerman previews his involvement at 7th ESCP Masterclass, Antalya, Turkey on 13 April which will include tips and tricks for reoperative colorectal surgery.
ESCP is gearing up towards the forthcoming Regional Masterclass on Reoperative Colorectal Surgery being held in conjunction with the XVIIth Turkish Colon & Rectal Surgery Congress.
Again, long-standing ESCP Education Committee member David Zimmerman will be involved in the educational masterclass on the back of his role at the successful masterclass hosted in Rome in November.
This time David is involved in the first session of the day – ‘Proctology: Is the definition of relapse suitable for anal fissure, haemorrhoids and fistulas?’ chaired by Bulent Mentes and Paolo Giamundo. David is looking at whether fistulas recur or persist and offering tips and tricks for reoperative surgery. He will then focus on difficult case scenarios with Paolo.
Zimmerman, a colorectal surgeon at the Department of Surgery at Elisabeth-Twee Steden Hospital in Tilburg, Netherlands explains why an educational focus on anal fistula is so important:
“Perianal fistula is a very common problem that is often treated by junior doctors, with little experience and knowledge about it. These courses seek to address this. Recurrent fistulas can be a headsore even for the most experienced colorectal surgeons.”
“Probably one of the ailments that is most commonly reoperated in our profession are perianal fistulas. Unfortunately, there is no ‘golden bullit’ but we hope to highlight some tips and tricks that may be useful for experienced surgeons as well as for trainees. As usual we will highlight the importance of adequate imaging.” explains Zimmerman.
At the annual ESCP meeting in September in Vienna, David will deliver the pre-conference course, ‘Advances in Treatment of Cryptoglandular Fistula’ together with Christoph Isbert.
