Virtually Vilnius, ESCP’s very first virtual conference, was enriched by an exciting photo competition. The ESCP encouraged participants to share a photo of themselves on Twitter which showcased where they were joining the ESCP congress from, using the hashtag #ESCP2020COMP, for a chance to win free registration next year’s annual meet.
The contest attracted a diverse range of creative photos from across the globe. Young ESCP monopolised the scene, but some memorable entries were also shared by experienced colleagues and members of the ESCP committees.
ESCP’s Social Media Committee collated all of the images posted and scored them based on quality, context, and originality. The best four were selected for an online Twitter vote:
- Irmgard Kronberger (Austria)
- Debby Keller (USA)
- Beatriz Martin (Spain)
- James Glasbey (UK)
After a breath-taking, head-to-head sprint between James and Beatriz, the photo of our UK colleague wakeboarding between breaks of the congress took the top spot!
The competition between the two finalists was so close that the ESCP decided to reward both James and Beatriz with a free subscription to the next ESCP Annual Scientific Meeting and Conference in 2021.
After being announced winner, James said:
"Delighted to be part of the #ESCP2020COMP - a fantastic way to gain insights into the #ESCP2020 conference around the world and share experiences with our friends and colleagues in #colorectalsurgery. A much-needed human element in the absence of sharing a glass of wine together. Here's to 2021."
Beatriz, the runner-up who put the pressure on James, told us:
"It has been a pleasure to participate and be finalist in such a great initiative from ESCP and encourage surgeons all over the world to join to the online conference #VirtuallyVilnius. See you next year!!"
A special mention is due to the photos of our colleagues’ four-legged friends; thank you for sharing them. Debby’s pooch ‘Waffle’ has already become a star, even if his tail wasn’t wagging at the results of the final poll - and we hope that James’ rabbit Beatrice found her way to the European Society of Cuddly Pets conference in the end!
