Professor Neil Smart was an outstanding surgeon, academic and clinical researcher. The key tenets of his life and teachings were:
- always collaborate with others, and
- always keep the patient and their individual outcomes at the centre of activities.
ESCP are honouring Neil and the remarkable contribution he made to our Society with the creation of an annual research award in his name. Each year the ESCP Executive will consider applications of those who have undertaken and completed multicentre research which seeks to improve patient outcomes in the field of coloproctology. Eligible studies must have been published within the 12 months preceding the current call for applications (based on the online publication date).
