Reported Outcomes in Common Colorectal Diseases (PROM)

On 10 Aug 2023

Survey Invitation to Patients and Surgeons The ESCP Programme Committee has the pleasure of inviting patients with pilonidal disease, rectal cancer or perianal fistula in Crohn’s disease and their surgeons to participate in an anonymous multilingual online survey. This 5-10 min online survey is in preparation for the PROM* session at: Vilnius 2023 Annual MeetingThursday 28 September, 11:30-13:00Plenary & Parallel Session 1, Conference Room 3 *PROM = Patient Reported Outcome Measurements Aims To investigate patients' preferences in terms of treatment outcomes and to inverstigate surgeons' perception of patient preferences. To cast some light on how well patients feel informed about their surgery and how actively surgeons involve them in the choice of treatment options. Common Colorectal Diseases Survey You can find the survey here: nettskjema.no/a/escp-poll The survey is available in 15 languages: Danish, Dutch, English, French, German, Greek, Hungarian, Italian, Lithuanian, Norwegian, Polish, Slovenian, Spanish, Swedish and Turkish. Download a file with QR codes and links to the survey in these languages (Word) Flyers about the survey in these languages are downloadable below. Ethical approval As this is a completely anonymous survey, ethical approval is not required. However, ethical approval is required in some countries for surgeons to approach their patients directly with the invitation. In this case invitations may only be distributed to patients through patient organisations. This applies for the UK and possibly other countries, but does not apply to Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Hungary, Lithuania, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey and possibly other countries. Please feel free to share this invitation or the flyer (downloadable in 15 languages below) with any patient you know who has been or will be treated for the above mentioned diagnoses and with any surgeons who treat these diagnoses. As a treating surgeon, please check regulations for ethical approval of your country before inviting patients directly! Presentation of results Some results will be presented during the PROM session at the ESCP Annual Meeting in Vilnius, 27-29 September. The full results will hopefully be published in an article (depending on the responses), alternatively on this website.  --- For the Programme Committee: Rogini Balachandran, Tomas Poscus and Johannes K Schultz(responsible for the ESCP PROM session) Multi-language flyers Download the flyer in the language you require as a PDF Danish Dutch English French German Greek Hungarian Italian Lithuanian Norwegian Polish Slovenian Spanish Swedish Turkish

The workshop will also discuss typical case scenarios, with highlighting the use of ultrasound in the clinical management of these patients. This year we will feature live patient demonstrations. This workshop is supported by an unrestricted educational grant provided by BK Medical. Workshop content Imaging is essential in the understanding of pelvic floor disorders. Ultrasound today increasingly used in clinical practice. Novel applications, including three-dimensional endoanal, endorectal, endovaginal, and dynamic transperineal ultrasound can help the clinician with a superior depiction of the pelvic anatomy and unique dynamic information. The new 3D technology is on the front line in the diagnostic and therapeutic work-up of patients suffering from pelvic floor dysfunction (faecal and urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, obstructed defecation) and for colorectal patients with benign (anorectal sepsis) or malignant (anorectal tumours) pathologies. The workshop is aimed at practitioners managing above mentioned patients and will feature basic concepts and techniques in clinical practice, demonstrating the endosonographic appearance of normal anatomy and common pathologic conditions of the anorectal region and pelvic floor. The workshop will also discuss typical case scenarios, with highlighting the use of ultrasound in the clinical management of these patients. Learning objectives To provide participants with basic knowledge of: The normal US anatomy of the anorectal region and the pelvic floor The ultrasonographic imaging techniques (3D endoanal, endorectal, endovaginal and dynamic transperineal US) The main guidelines and indications for the evaluation of faecal and urinary incontinence, anterior and posterior vaginal wall prolapse, obstructed defecation, anorectal fistulas and rectal tumours Programme TimeSession 08:00 Introduction - Anders Mellgren (USA), Tomas Poŝkus (Lithuania), Giulio Santoro (Italy) 08:05 Normal ultrasound anatomy of the anal canal & rectum - Anders Mellgren (USA) 08:20 Ultrasound assessment of fecal incontinence - Liliana Bordeianou (USA) 08:45 Anal ultrasound of perianal fistula - Lucia Oliveira (Brazil) 09:00 The role of Ultrasound in Staging of Rectal Cancer - Giulio Santoro (Italy) 09:15 Discussion - Liliana Bordeianou (USA), Anders Mellgren (USA), Tomas Poŝkus (Lithuania) 09:30 Coffee Break 10:00 Pelvic Floor Ultrasound: technique and normal ultrasound - Pawel Wieczorek (Poland) 10:15 Ultrasound assessment of pelvic organ prolapse and obstructed defecation - Giulio Santoro (Italy) 10:30 Discussion - Lucia Oliveira (Brazil), Giulio Santoro (Italy), Pawel Wieczorek (Poland) 11:00 Ultrasound live demonstrations and Case Discussions - Giulio Santoro (Italy), Gintare Tauginiene (Lithuania), Nerijus Teresius (Lithuania) 12:20  Final discussion and closing remarks - Anders Mellgren (USA), Tomas Poŝkus (Lithuania), Giulio Santoro (Italy)     Pre-conference Course Preview13th Anorectal and Pelvic Floor Ultrasound WorkshopWednesday 27 September 2023   Anders Mellgren, MD, PhD, FACS, FASCRSProfessor of Surgery and ChairDivision of Colon & Rectal SurgeryUniversity of Illinois Chicago Tomas Poskus, MD, PhD, FEBS (Coloproctology)Professor of Surgery and Head of the Abdominal and Oncosurgery CentreVilnius University Hospital Santara Clinics, Lithuania Giulio A.
