The European Board of Surgical Qualification (EBSQ) examination is the certifying examination leading to the Diploma of EBSQ (Coloproctology) of the European Union of Medical Specialists. This is the only form of certification in the speciality of coloproctology within Europe and candidates who successfully pass the examination are awarded the title 'Fellow of the European Board of Coloproctology'. It is fast becoming the norm for specialists in our field.

Important notice

5 July 2021

Dear colleagues,

Unfortunately, due to severe technical troubles related to the change of internet services provider, UEMS is at this time unable to host the application process for the November EBSQ Coloproctology exam. We apologise for the inconvenience.

We expect the site to be accessible and open for applications by 15 July and we welcome your application!

The application deadline has been extended to 1 September 2021 because of this unfortunate problem.

We sincerely hope you will consider applying for this unique opportunity to take the hybrid exam without the need for (expensive) travel!

Kind regards,
David Zimmerman, Exam Secretary EBSQ Coloproctology

COVID-19 Update - December 2020

Dear friends and colleagues,

These are challenging times for all of us. Let me begin by expressing my hope that you and your friends and family are well!

As far as the Coloproctology EBSQ exam is concerned; we have had a bad year. As you know, all our exams were either postponed or cancelled.

This could not have come at a worse time. Coloproctology EBSQ was booming! More and more, it is becoming the standard for our profession and we had an ever increasing number of candidates. We hope to pick up this trend in 2021; as despite all setbacks in this horrible year, developments in our profession continue and the maturation and establishment of EBSQ as an international standard must and will continue.

In order to offer a relatively 'COVID-proof' solution, we have devised an exam method that precludes international travel. Depending on the location of candidates, we will offer (wherever possible) a local examination location that will allow you to take the written exam without having to travel abroad. In order to safeguard the unique character of the Coloproctology EBSQ exam, an oral examination will then be conducted one week later through modern digital media.

Even though this 'hybrid' exam is new to us and dictated by circumstances, it offers several unique opportunities that I would like to motivate you to take advantage of. The examination will not involve international travel; this will save on costs, environment and hassle. It will therefore take up a lot less of your time.

In all other aspects, this hybrid EBSQ exam will be a fully fledged exam, offering all the challenges and possibilities it usually does, likely to result in the rewarding EBSQ Diploma, proving you to be a true Colorectal Surgeon, ready to be an opinion leader in your country as well as in Europe.

We hope to see you, even if online during the 2021 Hybrid EBSQ Coloproctology Exam!
