The CLARITY study is an international, prospective registry investigating the role of appendectomy as a treatment option for patients with ulcerative colitis in routine clinical practice.
Recent studies suggest that appendectomy may reduce relapse rates and induce remission in selected patients with ulcerative colitis, and upcoming guidelines are expected to acknowledge appendectomy as a potential therapeutic option. However, most existing evidence comes from controlled clinical trials, and real-world data are currently limited.
CLARITY aims to collect international real-world data on patients with ulcerative colitis undergoing appendectomy, in order to better understand the implementation, safety, and effectiveness of this approach in daily practice. The study will also explore which patients benefit most from this treatment strategy.
Centres worldwide are invited to participate and contribute data to this international collaborative registry.
