We talked to Professor Donato Altomare, who discusses his role as Chair of the Programme Committee and some of the highlights from the Barclelona 2014 scientific programme. You are currently Chair of the Programme Committee, what are the roles and responsibilities of the committee? The Programme Committee is composed of a group of personalities who are very active in all the fields of coloproctology. They must be up-to-date, active in research and have an extensive knowledge of the literature and authors throughout Europe.

Tina Chen won the British Journal of Surgery Prize for the Best of the Six Best Papers, and Thomas Golda  won the Best Lunchtime Poster. Tina will travel to the ASCRS meeting in Hollywood, Florida in May 2014 to present her paper there as part of the ESCP/ASCRS reciprocal Travelling Fellow programme.

The Executive are delighted to announce that at the invitation of the Association of Colorproctology of Great Britain and Ireland, and the Royal Society of Medicine, ESCP is now involved as an active partner in the planning and management of the Tripartite Colorectal Meeting next year. The meeting will run from 30 June to 3 July 2014 at Birmingham International Convention Centre.
