I was delighted and honored to be chosen as the European Society of Coloproctology (ESCP) travelling fellow to Japan in November 2015. Dr Eiji Shinto (National Defense Medical College) welcomed me on my arrival; he had been the Japanese Society of Coloproctology (JSCP) travelling fellow to the ESCP meeting in 2014. Dr Shinto had kindly arranged all aspects of my trip, including which units I would visit.

ESCP wish to invite your application of interest for involvement in the activities of the Society. We are keen to give our members an active role by: introducing Young ESCP Representatives on sub-committees, and establishing a new working group charged with the responsibility of developing a series of new initiatives for young members and trainees in the organisation.

It was my great honor to have been selected as the JSCP/ESCP travelling fellowship to Dublin in 2015. My experience to attend ESCP meeting and to visit St James’s hospital of Leeds University, Örebro University and Karolinska Institute were both exciting and inspiring.

Lars Påhlman

Following some years of fight against a malignant disease, Professor Lars Påhlman passed away on Saturday November 21, 2015, at the age of 69. After Medical School at Uppsala University and a few years with basic surgical training in a district hospital, Lars Påhlman started an enormously successful academic and surgical career in Uppsala, Sweden.
